Masterclasses

The aim of these classes is to prepare children and their teachers, parents and TAs in key areas directly related to film making, through working with industry professionals.

Visiting professionals from Aardman Animations – Storyboard Artist, Jay Clarke and Model Maker, Jim Parkyn shared trailers and clips from the latest Aardman creations: Shaun the Sheep and Pirates then lent expert guidance as the children:

  • made their own storyboard
  • created their own familiar Aardman character
  • learnt how their drawings can be used to create animated storyboards
  • created a simple animated film, which can be seen at the end of this clip.

From previous years:

Storyboarding with Jay Clarke

Jay described and demonstrated the basics of storyboarding and the importance of this work to the film making process.
He drew many images as he explained his craft and used still photos and video from his work with Aardman studios then everyone embarked on creating a storyboard of their own under his guidance - see the results here:

Soundtracking with Jack Maynard

Jack involved the children in simple warm up exercises to attune their ears
then under his direction they collaborated to create a soundtrack to a silent film.
